Top 10 Spring Break Destinations For Families

“With rushing winds and gloomy skies, the dark and stubborn winter dies” – Bayard Taylor

This week we officially welcomed Spring, yep, 20th was the first day of Spring. And for many of us that means we are very close to Spring Break. For me it is the time to take a break with my family, a time to unwind and relax. For most people on the eastern side, Spring break is the time to go looking for that blast of sunlight to recharge their souls.

With that thought in mind, I decided to put together a list of the Top 10 popular spring break destinations for families. I have not been to some of these places myself, but it is in my must visit list. The next time you are thinking of a spring break with your family, I hope this list comes in handy!

P.S: This list is in random order.

  1. Cancun, Mexico

yucatan-cave

The sandy beaches with its turquoise blue water, long stretches of green patchy land for golfing, an underwater Mayan cave, along with a dose of other Mayan cultural locations to visit – if that’s not reason enough to go then I don’t know what is!

  1. Los Angeles

los angeles

There’s just something about this city that makes you want to go there. From touring Hollywood, to a fun day at Universal studios to visiting the zoo, there’s a lot on offer from this city – even for families!

  1. Yellowstone National Park

Hitting a national park during spring break promises to create memories for the entire family, at prices that are more reasonable than many other tourist destinations.

  1. New Orleans

No wonder New Orleans is a top spot for spring break; this culture-packed city stays at a comfortable 70 degrees (or above) during the springtime. Families can enjoy ghost tours and Creole eats, river cruises and historic sights.

  1. Maui, Hawaii

While airfare and lodging rates generally put Maui out of reach for travelers on a shoestring budget, spring offers a bit of a reprieve. The island’s winter visitors have already left and the summer crowds have yet to arrive, meaning scoring deals can be relatively easy. Temperatures in the mid-80s don’t hurt either.

  1. San Diego

Mild temperatures, a 3-mile boardwalk and busy Mission Beach make San Diego a popular choice for spring breakers before the crowds descend in the summer months. The zoo and safari park are also popular spots to visit.

  1. Bahamas

bahamas

An English-speaking archipelago that begins about 50 miles off the south coast of Florida, the Bahamas attracts spring breakers of all ages. With over 70 islands in all,  The Bahamas exude a relaxed and laid-back vibe.

  1. San Juan, Puerto Rico

The capital of Puerto Rico attracts visitors for its El Yunque Rainforest, vast beaches, and the blue cobblestone streets of Old San Juan.

  1. Austin, Texas

Home to the well-known South X Southwest music festival and to a multitude of food trucks, Austin is on the radar for techies and music lovers alike. It’s also a great place for BBQ. Many visitors also head to Austin in March for its warm weather.

  1. Oregon, Portland

portland

The pedestrian-friendly city is filled with family-friendly restaurants and attractions. Visit animals at the Portland Zoo, skate and enjoy thrilling rides at Oaks Amusement Park and shop for goods at the Portland Saturday Market and grab lunch at one of the food carts.

I am sure some of you are wondering why I have not included the really popular beach destinations like in Florida and Texas, the reason that being, they are so popular that these destinations are just too crowded! Thus, I find these alternate options much more fun and relaxing!

Spring break is around the corner. Where are you heading to this year?

  2. No I am in Canada,in St. John’s,Newfoundland, it’s the exact location. Some years we don’t even get spring. I won’t complain, it’s a nice place and people are very friendly. They tell me I must not think of my other home, this is my home. I like hearing that, but at heart I’m a Bengali always will be, I cannot stop thinking about Tagore, Sarat Chandra. Sarat Chandra wrote the famous novel, Dev Das, and Tagore keeps our culture alive.
    Thank you Rashmi. 🙂
